Welcome, newcomers
We welcome visitors to contribute syntax errors, or to improve the commentary we already have. You need to create a user name in order to be able to edit anything. We had to, because we've had problems with spammers.
If you've ever used Wikipedia or Wikitravel, you'll know how to edit here. We use the same MediaWiki software as them. The norms you learned there will serve you well here, too.
This project is starting small. We're comfortable with that. Part of contributing here is stepping onto virgin territory and helping develop the rules as we go along. At this point, it is really simple: explanations of PHP syntax errors! In particular, if you come here looking for help and can't find it, please please please explain it here when you figure it out.
If you have questions, the quickest way to get answers is edit your question in a new section on User talk:Jim DeLaHunt. Jim is an administrator here.
Other sites in this family
There are several sites in the syntaxerrors.info family. For instance, Java, PHP, and C++
Rules of the site
The purpose of this site is to help software developers by letting them look up the text of syntax error messages, and find advice on what might be causing that error and how to fix it.
Anything posted to this site is freely available under a free content license as described at Php:Copyrights. By contributing, you license your contributions under this license too.
Spam is not welcome here. We've had a real problem with it in spring 2008. It's so unwelcome, that if you post spam (especially links to outside sites that don't further this project's goals), we will delete your postings and block your account without warning. Also, content which does not further this project's goals is not appropriate here.
You need to create a user name in order to be able to edit anything. We had to, because we've had problems with spammers.
The Benevolent Dictator for Life of this project is User:DuckySherwood. The administrator of the site is User:Jim DeLaHunt. Right now governance consists of them being judge, jury, and janitor all by themselves.
To-do list
- Install Bad Behaviour plugin to fight spammers
- Flesh out norms of site and governance structures.
- Select a license and write a Php:Copyrights. Change all references to Project: namespace to be Php: .
- "Php:"? Ewww, come up with a better project name for the MediaWiki config.
- Come up with a structure for syntax error listings. What should each page contain?
- How to deal with different compiler versions, or differing runtime environments?
- Is there a way to scrape syntax errors from the compiler's source code and bulk-add listings here?
- What templates would be useful?
- What category schemes would be useful.
- Flesh out the to-do list.
